Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation)

Surya namaskar is a dynamic group of asanas and is an effective way of loosening up, stretching, massaging and toning all the joints, muscles and internal organs in the body. It is used as a warm-up for the body and is a complete form of exercise to keep the body healthy and disease-free. Surya namaskar, if practiced regularly, balances the energy system at both the mental and the physical levels. It strengthens the spinal nerves and the back and helps balance the metabolism. This practice tones the spine, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, wrist, back and leg muscles, and makes the body flexible. It stimulates and balances all the systems of the body, including the reproductive, circulatory, respiratory, lymphatic and digestive systems. It also strengthens the heart and tones the digestive organs.

108 times sun salutation means 54 times on the right and 54 times on the left. So 108 times will complete 54 rounds. The number 108 refers to spiritual completion.
